The Integrated Innovation Institute at Carnegie Mellon University breaks down the silos that impede innovation.We believe that by uniting the disciplines of engineering, design, and business, we can build impactful solutions that create value for real people.

We are searching for a motivated Career Coach to support students at the Integrated Innovation Institute.This role will empower graduate students in the Master of Integrated Innovation for Products & Services (MIIPS) degrees - both online and in-person - by providing tailored support, resources, and strategies to achieve professional goals. This position offers an opportunity to apply industry expertise and career counseling skills to engage with our talented and diverse students.

The successful candidate will be a self-starter with excellent verbal and written communication skills, high attention to detail, and strong organizational skills to support a variety of student needs. This role will report directly to the Associate Director of Corporate Outreach and New Engagement.

What You'll Do:

  • Career Advising and Coaching: Provide tailored career coaching and support to iii students through 1:1 appointments (in person and virtual), office hours, workshops, mock interviews, and resume reviews.
  • Support and Guidance: Connect with diverse students to help them navigate career-related challenges, build resilience, and gain confidence in their professional journeys. Primarily support MIIPS graduate students' career development; provide supplemental support to new EDIE (Engineering Design, Innovation, and Entrepreneurship) undergraduate program and iii alumni.
  • Engagement and Collaboration: Act as a liaison between employers, students, and campus departments (e.g., Office of International Education (OIE) and the Career and Professional Development Center (CPDC).
  • Workshops, Resources, and Programming: Plan and deliver engaging workshops on topics such as resume building, negotiating offers, job search methods, and networking strategies. Create career resources and materials tailored toward MIIPS students' interests and needs.
  • Employer Relations: Create and update resume books for employer outreach, facilitate site visits, and share job opportunities with students. Stay abreast of hiring and recruiting trends in relevant industries.
  • Data Tracking: Monitor and report employment outcomes, internships, and career development metrics.
  • Reporting and Assessment: Manage student career records, approve internships and work authorizations, and provide updates to faculty and staff.
  • Help with departmental projects and other duties as assigned.

  • You are highly personable and supportive of students' well-being, while maintaining boundaries for iii processes and CMU policies.
  • You are self-motivated with the ability to prioritize and manage time effectively.
  • You have exceptional verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills in a diverse environment and can create engaging presentations, emails, newsletters, and messaging for students.
  • You bring big ideas to the table and are eager to execute/coordinate these ideas for the team.
  • You have strong analytical and evaluation skills.
  • You have familiarity with roles/industries commonly pursued by iii graduate students, such as design, product, and engineering-related roles.
  • You are enthusiastic and enjoy engaging with others.
  • You have the ability to work independently for extended periods and manage time constraints to meet deadlines and goals.
  • You have successful experience working in a team environment with various communication tools - email, calendars, Slack, etc.
  • You have an eagerness to learn new project management tools, such as Monday.com.
  • You are a team player for the iii - eager to participate in events, meetings or other projects as needed to elevate the iii.
  • You have higher education experience (not required, but a plus).
  • You have a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution (required)
