Position description

Assistant/Associate Health Sciences Clinical/Clinical X Professor/ Physical Therapist: Pediatric

The UCSF Department of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Science is seeking full-time member in the Health Sciences Clinical and Clinical X Professor series (at the rank of Assistant/Associate) to provide Physical Therapy services in the inpatient rehabilitation services department at UCSF Parnassus Medical Center, with expertise and documented excellence in evidence-based pediatric practice. The applicant will also support our UCSF/SFSU Graduate Program in Physical Therapy.

The UCSF Parnassus Medical Center Rehabilitation Services serves a broad range of pediatric and adult patients (peds to elders) with a variety of diagnoses in settings ranging from critical care to Emergency Department. Our primary clinical teams include Physical Therapists and Physical Therapy Assistants working on a host of initiatives including early mobility, delirium reduction, falls reduction, and outcomes improvements in the clinical areas of Pediatrics, Orthopedics & Spine, Cardiac, Neurology, Medical/Surgery, Medicine, and Oncology.

The applicants for this position are expected to:



  • Practice evidence based, high quality care
  • Teach students in the clinical setting
  • Represent the Faculty Practice within UCSF and the surrounding communities
  • Maintain an active dialogue with UCSF referring providers and within the UCSF Health community


Basic Qualifications:



  • Successful completion of a DPT degree from an accredited DPT Program
  • Be board-certified or board eligible as a Pediatric Clinical Specialist
  • Current CA State licensure or eligibility for licensure in the State of CA to practice
  • Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification required


Preferred Qualifications:



  • 2-3 years clinical experience
  • Pediatric inpatient experience


Applicants must meet all of the requirements by the time of hire. Applicants' materials must list current and/or pending qualifications upon submission.

The candidates may be asked to participate in teaching in DPT, Residency and/or PhD programming, and will instruct students in the Faculty Practice environments. This position initially is comprised of 95% patient care and 5% teaching. The faculty member is expected to participate in university governance, faculty meetings, departmental administrative meetings, quality assurance programs and continuing education.

The posted UC salary scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and step at appointment. See Table 5. The minimum base salary range for this position is $118,000 - $183,500. This position includes membership in the health sciences compensation plan which provides for eligibility for additional compensation.
